WASH to Schools

The corps members of SDGs-Community Development Service Group, Kaduna North and Igabi Local Government Areas in collaboration with National Water Resources Institute (NWRI), Kaduna State, are set to carryout Sustainable Development Goals 6 (SDG6)- Clean Water and Sanitation sensitisation project, WASH to Schools in Kaduna State. The sensitisation project centers on educating and turning into actions by school children, education on; Waste management.  Sanitation and hygiene.  Water safety and conservation.  Hand washing practice.  We have a target to reach 30 schools capturing over 2500 children as there is no denying fact that schools are key factors in initiating change in a society also good hygiene behaviour learned at an early age can lead to lifelong positive habits. Faecal-Oral Diseases

Faeces are the waste matter remaining after food has been digested in the small intestine, discharged from the bowels and eventually through the anus during defecation. Many diseases and disorders can affect bowel function and produce abnormalities in the faeces. For example, diarrhoea occurs when there is frequent defecation and excessive soft, watery faeces while constipation is characterised by infrequent evacuations and the production of excessive hard and dry faces. Faecal-oral diseases are diseases that transmitted from infected human faeces to human mouth. These diseases are result of ingesting contaminated faeces from infected persons. Faecal-oral diseases include diarrhoea , typhoid , cholera , polio , dysentery and hepatitis . The harmattan season is the period when the rooms are cold, people dive under the cover, move about in sweatshirts, head warmers, boots and other cold protective wears. It is a time of stress for shopkeepers having their stores especially in open spaces such as those along the roadsides. People wake up to wetting the grounds, wiping off dusts on every items in homes, vehicles and offices. Harmattan is the cool dry wind that blows from the northeast or east in the Sahara picking large amount of fine dusts and sand particles as it passes over the Sahara and are then transported hundreds of kilometers towards the Atlantic Ocean. The name is related to the word ‘ harmatta ’ in Twi language, a dialect of the Akan language spoken in southern and central Ghana as well as southeastern Cote D’Ivoire. Harmattan blows during the dry season causing the air temperature to fall, in most places, to as low as 9°C, but can be hot in certain places, soaring to as high as 30°C in the afternoon

Environment refers to all that is external to human body. These components are the physical, chemical, biological, socio-economic and cultural factors of the environment individually and in combination affect human health and well-being.
